John Tayman Founder & CEO

John Tayman has founded, edited, or contributed to many award-winning publications, including Outside, Business 2.0, Men’s Health, The New York Times Magazine, Rocky Mountain Magazine, GQ, Life, and Time. John’s previous digital startups include MotorMouths.com and StreetAdvisor.com. He’s the author of the bestselling nonfiction book "The Colony," which was a finalist for the Los Angeles Times Book Prize and remains the only book to earn a five-star review from both The New England Journal of Medicine and The Onion.

Deanna Brown President

Prior to joining Byliner as company president, Deanna served as CEO of Federated Media. She was President at Scripps Networks Digital, where she led the charge on bringing Scripps more fully into the digital space, and in 1995 co-founded CondéNet, the digital division of publisher Condé Nast. Deanna’s held VP and General Manager titles at Yahoo and AOL and founded other successful media companies, including Powerful Media/Inside.com and Gaming Industry News. Deanna began her career as a founding member of a small L.A. advertising agency upon graduation from the University of Southern California.

Mark Bryant Co-Founder & Editor-in-Chief

Mark Bryant has been the editor of Outside, Men’s Journal, and Play: The New York Times Sports Magazine, and an executive editor of HarperCollins. He’s edited winners of the Pulitzer Prize, the National Book Award, and many other literary prizes, and he led Outside to five National Magazine Awards, including a record three consecutive awards for General Excellence. He’s also edited several bestselling stories and books that have been turned into films.

Richard Nash VP of Partnerships

Before joining Byliner, Richard ran the independent Soft Skull Press, for which he was awarded the Association of American Publishers Award for Creativity in Independent Publishing. He’s the founder of the social platform Cursor and served as Head of Partnerships and Content for the book discovery site Small Demons. Named by Bookseller magazine one of the Five Most Inspiring People in Digital Publishing, Richard was also ranked the No. 1 Twitter User Changing the Face of Publishing by Mashable.

Annie Frye VP of Operations & Corporate Counsel

Annie Frye is an emerging growth company operator with seven years’ experience as a corporate lawyer and strategist. At Byliner, she helps ensure smooth operations in the back office while integrating departments and teams. Among the partnerships she helps support are those between Byliner and its authors, publishing and marketing partners, and outside stakeholders, including board members. Annie attended school in Boston, has worked and resided on both coasts, and is now a full-time San Francisco resident and devotee.

Aaron Gotwalt CTO & Head of Product

A serial entrepreneur, Aaron was formerly CEO of Seesaw Decisions Corp, maker of the acclaimed iPhone app Everlapse. He joined Byliner upon its acquisition of Seesaw in November 2013. Prior to founding Seesaw, Aaron founded the social media management platform CoTweet, which was sold to ExactTarget before its subsequent acquisition by Salesforce. Aaron is a programmer, a musician, and a closet whiskey snob.

Kyle Sollenberger VP of User Experience

Kyle is an entrepreneur, designer, husband, and father who has built a career creating companies that provide a compelling user experience. Part of the team that founded Seesaw and CoTweet, Kyle oversaw design and user experience for those companies’ Web and mobile products, and currently does the same for Byliner. He’s an amateur drummer and licensed snowboarding instructor.

Jessica Hilberman Director of Content & Engagement

Jessica leads content strategy and engagement for Byliner. Previously, she was Director of Content at Seesaw. Jessica is a veteran of Yahoo, where she managed search and social media for the homepage team, making her a formidable pub quiz opponent. She has also consulted extensively with consumer and media startups on digital and audience growth strategies.
